Biography
Carol Pavlish, PhD, RN, FAAN (she/her/hers) is Professor Emerita and Research Professor at UCLA School of Nursing. Her clinical background is in critical care and oncology. She currently researches ethically-difficult situations in clinical practice with a specific focus on developing system-based, proactive, and collaborative strategies for nurses to address and mitigate ethical conflicts and moral injury.
Carol also conducted community-based research on gender-based violence and women’s health and human rights in South Sudan, Rwanda, and Uganda with the American Refugee Committee. Working with local women’s groups, she co-developed an interactive, online Health and Human Rights course with 8 training modules for dissemination to community health workers in international nongovernmental organizations. She co-authored one book, Community-based Collaborative Action Research: A Nursing Approach, which the American Journal of Nursing awarded as a 2011 AJN Book of the Year in the research category.
