Staff Assembly
- Visit our partner UCLA Staff Assembly, an organization dedicated to promoting the interest and welfare of all staff employees. Semel HCI Center sponsors Staff Assembly events related to living well, including the All-Staff Picnic, the Staff Virtual 5K Run, and three staff enrichment scholarships.

Diabetes Prevention Program

- Semel HCI Center, in collaboration with FITWELL, offers the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) for students, faculty, staff, and UCLA Health System patients. UCLA DPP follows the guidelines for National Diabetes Prevention Programs, using a CDC-approved curriculum, trained lifestyle coaches, and group support over the course of a year.
- UCLA DPP provides education, encouragement, and the tools necessary to help individuals reach their health goals.
- Participants meet in a classroom setting for an hour once a week for the first three months; every other week for the next three months; and once a month for the last six months.
- The Prevent T2 curriculum includes basic information on nutrition, ways to increase physical activity, stress management techniques, and ideas to stay motivated.

Staff Fitness Programs

- Visit our partner UCLA Recreation’s FITWELL program to learn more about the many fitness resources and programs available to faculty and staff.
- Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) is a three-month program—exclusively for UCLA faculty and staff at no cost (for first time participants)—offering participants intensive lifestyle training in areas of exercise, nutrition, stress management and mental conditioning.
- “Take 15 Fit Break” at Murphy Hall is a 15-minute break taking place in the courtyard, where staff and faculty participate in a daily workout led by a UCLA Recreation certified trainer.
- Semel HCI Center supports the Warm Up for Work program, led by student trainers, that guides staff members through a workout prior to starting their workday.
- In addition, these student trainers identified staff who participated in Warm Up for Work who were interested in additional one-on-one training and conducted training for up to four staff members per quarter.
- Based on staff preferences, the Fitness Improvement Training through Exercise and Diet (FITTED) student group trained staff on workout routines accessible without gym facilities.
