The UCLA Healthy Campus Initiative envisioned and supported by Jane and Terry Semel is thriving and incubating ideas that support healthy choice as the easy choice in areas of food, physical activity, mindful wellness, the physical environment, and a tobacco free campus. Healthy sleep is a crosscutting Healthy Campus Initiative theme.

Did you know that 1 in 3 Americans does not get enough sleep? And for college students it’s even worse: up to 70% are not getting enough sleep.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) just came out with a new report recommending all adults aim for at least 7 hours of sleep per night. Getting a regular 7+ hours of sleep supports optimal health and is associated with decreased risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, frequent mental distress, and death.

Sleep is a crucial component of a healthy life. Want to talk and learn more about sleep? Please join the Healthy Campus Initiative for its 2016 Celebration:
